Course Description:

This highly dynamic and interactive online course was designed for medical speech language pathologists to have an opportunity for advanced education in dysphagia, specifically related to flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). This course is customized based on the needs of each specific attendee and may cover topics such as: FEES interpretation, advanced pathology identification and description, physiology-first documentation, use of standardized measures during FEES, determining exercise and diet recommendations based on fees findings, and more. Prior to the course, participants are expected to complete a brief survey to determine the content covered during the session and the participant will complete a brief assessment of current knowledge and skills in that area in the beginning of the session. Following the knowledge and skills assessment, the participant and the instructor will dive deeply into the topic of the session to ensure the participant gains an advanced level of knowledge in that particular area. A follow-up brief assessment of knowledge and skills will ensure that the participant has gained advanced-level knowledge in the pre-approved topic area covered during the session.

Learner Objectives:

  1. The participant will complete an assessment of current knowledge and skills in the pre-approved topic area covered during the session.

  2. The participant will define three key concepts addressed in the pre-approved topic area covered during the session.

  3. The participant will complete an assessment of new knowledge and skills at the end of the session to determine progressed knowledge in the pre-approved topic area covered during the session.

Intended Audience:

This course is intended for speech-language pathologists who hold a master’s degree or higher who work with individuals with dysphagia and have basic competency with flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing.

Course Location:

This course will be held live and online using the ZOOM meeting platform. A link to participate will be provided upon registration to the course.

0 -10 Minutes: Introduction
10 - 20 Minutes: Assessment of Current Knowledge and Skills
20 - 120 Minutes: Advanced Mentorship & Training (Topic may vary)
120 -135 Minutes: Break
135 - 240 Minutes: Advanced Mentorship & Training (Topic may vary)
240 - 255 Minutes: Review of New Knowledge & Skills Learned

Hillary Cooper is a self-proclaimed “dysphagia nerd” who has extensive experience with dysphagia in adults across a variety of settings. She owns North Louisiana Swallow Solutions, a mobile FEES company. She is the current Past President of the Louisiana Speech-Language Hearing Association (LSHA). Her love of advocating led her to create Dysphagia Outreach Project, which is the project that brings her more joy than any other.

Course Tuition:

Cost for this course is $250 per person. At this time, there are no student or group discounts. All course slides and materials will be provided to attendees via email prior to the start of the course.

Program Completion Requirements:

In order to receive full credit for ASHA CEUs, the participant is expected to be in attendance throughout the entire course. Additionally, participants are expected to score above 80% on a short learning quiz which will be provided at the end of the session.

Continuing education credit:

This course is offered for 0.4 ASHA CEUs (Advanced Level; Professional Area).
